Spins, rollbacks, lead changes and not to forget the breath taking sliding stops -this past weekend April1st-3rd the NLHTMteam traveled to New Jersey for the Eastern Pennsylvania Reining Horse Association ‘s (EPRHA) first show of the season to compete in the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) approved classes in reining. While at the show we also made new contacts, advanced our horses training even further, and captured the beauty and art of the competitive reining circuit. I must admit, I was practically drooling watching all of the fine bred, athletic, and talented horses present at the event. There was no doubt I was surrounded by more than just a few stunning horses, but none stood out as much as the horse I rode in on, my American Mustang, Durango. Durango has been preparing for quite some time to re-enter the show pen since his début at the 2009 Mustang Challenge in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I was very proud of his effort and composure throughout the weekend, and not to mention his patience with me as I tested our limits with the NRHA competition.
I must thank NRHA for welcoming all breeds into their association and also the other competitors for being so helpful to new faces. We appreciated the support and cheers we got from the NRHA members during the pattern. Durango and I had a great learning and training experience and I witnessed a vast improvement in his performance of the various maneuvers, confidence and communication with me within such a short period of time. We look forward to performing even better in the upcoming reining shows where we can make a bigger impact for the mustangs in the show world.
The journey does not stop for NLHTMand our loyal horses… next stop Columbus, Ohio for the Equine Affaire! Be sure to stop by our booth and mingle with our mustangs and the latest of the NLHTM road crew, our new reining bred filly, Walla Whiz Wanda (Kahlua)!! See you there!
