Hello everyone!
Being an intern at Next Level Horsemanship keeps me very busy but I must say I’m having fun and learning a lot. So my apologies for not getting another post up sooner, but I have a lot to report about what we’ve been doing.
First, we had a great time at the Pennsylvania Horse World Expo, in Harrisburg PA. It was so much fun getting to demonstrate our training methods to an eager audience. Our horses really enjoyed it too! Suzanne did long-lining and liberty demonstrations with her mustang Leo, along with an informative reining demonstration with Brooke, and their two reiners, Red and Cisco. Both Suzanne and Brooke also did reining freestyles for the Equi-tainment set to a few of their favorite songs.
Kacie and I mainly worked behind the scenes taking care of the horses’ regular needs, along with primping and readying them for their appearances. It could be hectic at times, but it was still so enjoyable! I can personally recall a few comedic moments while trying to bathe the horses, and let me tell you… When it was all said and done, they may have looked superb, but I on the other hand was looking a little rough! Throughout the weekend we got to meet and talk with many new and interesting people at the booth. It was a very successful weekend and we look forward to next year with even more enthusiasm!
On another note, we had our annual Penn State University Spring Break externship as well, where selected students of the college come to work for a week and get a chance to see what it’s like to be an intern at Next Level Horsemanship. One of the students, Olivia, got to ride Suzanne’s mustang Leo and really loved him. Olivia and the other girls had a lot of fun and worked hard, and hopefully they will visit us from time to time again.
Suzanne and I and some of her other clients recently hauled to Rising Star Farm, in Woodbine MD, for a reining clinic with Dutch Chapman, Chapman Reining Horses. Dutch is a multiple world champion and has produced many world champion riders. I was among the lucky few that got to go down and ride, and boy, all I can say is “I learned a lot”! What an amazing time! We worked on all the various elements essential to every reiner’s arsenal. From spins, stops, and rollbacks, to circles, and lead departures, everything was critiqued.
It’s so great having the opportunities to do so many things with Next Level Horsemanship. This journey of horsemanship is all about learning… right? Even if we get down on ourselves at times, it’s important to remember that all of us as riders are on a different path, but all for the same reason: for the love of the ride. I think that’s why I love being at Next Level Horsemanship so much, because the experiences here help me to grow as a horsewoman. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
See ya guys… ☺ Liz
