There are many things us Cowgirls find essential when packing our suit case: boots, spurs, cowgirl hat, hairspray, saddle and horse (if we could).  Did I mention hairspray? And, not to mention the latte which must… be in hand for every NLHTM road trip!  This past April, we traveled to the Columbus, Ohio Equine Affaire with two of our mustangs (Durango and Jacuzzi) and one of our new Reiner mares (Kahlua). During the event we gave presentations on barn and herd management, medical treatment, and training topics, while our horses entertained us all by acting out our topics and bringing them to life. With a little bit of music to warm the audience up we were thrilled to kick off our Ohio Equine Affaire debut with some new clients and other familiar faces. I had a great time making new equine connections and also found some time to mingle with other clinicians at the show. The Equine Affaire did a great job bringing all genres of horsemanship under one roof to educate and celebrate the horse’s impact in all of our lives. As a trainer I appreciated the time I had to share my college background and training knowledge with the audience. It amazed me how so many people came to the event with a hunger to improve themselves and their horses, and NLHTM was more than happy to be a helping hand.  I can’t forget to thank Durango for sparking some great conversation about the American Mustangs with the public. It is clear that everyone just can’t get enough of these magnificent creatures and their historical roots.
I admit that I can’t seem to get away from the mustangs; maybe because they are so truthful in the way they communicate with us. This breed is full of heart and very soon I plan on dedicating my heart to a 5 year old, brown gelding from Twin Peaks, California this May.  He and I will be competing in the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas in September with his loving adopters cheering in the stands! Mary Kay Soergel and I spent months reviewing the auction videos to put together a list of mustangs for us to bid on RFD-TV this past April 16th, just to end up with a mustang that was not on our list! We didn’t get discouraged we just crossed our fingers and trusted fate to match Mary Kay with the right mustang. Lot #88, identification #2113 would be the horse that would enter Mary Kay’s life and lesson program… As we say at NLHTM “you don’t pick them, mustangs pick you.â€
